Do I have to be registered to participate?

Yes, everyone on the course must be registered and wearing their race numbers on the front of their body. Online registration has CLOSED. Registration is available at the expo and on race day.

 

What are the official charities of the Run for the Dream? 

The Run for the Dream’s official charities are An Achievable Dream, Paralyzed Veterans Race Team of Virginia Beach, and the Massey Challenge. Visit our charities page to learn how you can get invovled!

 

Where can I download a paper registration form? You can download a paper registration form here. All paper race registrations must be received by May 25th. No faxed forms will be accepted.

How many participants will you accept?  The 8K and the half marathon will be capped at 4,000 runners each.

 

What is the minimum age for a race participant? The minimum race day age for the half marathon is 12. The minimum age for the 8K is 10.

 

What are the details of the free passes to Busch Gardens and Colonial Williamsburg?  If you are one of the first 3,000 to register for any race (kids race excluded), you will receive a free pass to Busch Gardens, Williamsburg.

If you are one of the first 4,000 to register for any race (kids races included), you will receive a free pass to Colonial Williamsburg. The Colonial Williamsburg pass will be good for the May 29th-31st. As an added benefit, if you stay in one of our Official Race Hotels, your pass can be redeemed for a length of stay pass, making it valid for your entire trip to Williamsburg. You may pick up your passes with your race bib at the Expo.

 

Once I’m registered, can I switch races?   Only until April 1st. You will need to pay the increase in fee if one applies. Additionally, no refunds will be given for the difference. You can switch your registration on the “Register” tab on the top of the homepage.

 

How do I know if I’m registered? You can check if you are registered by going towww.RunForAchievableDream.com and searching race entrants. To access this, click the Entrants button at the top of the page and then enter your name to search for yourself.

 

Can I transfer my registration to another runner? Only until April 1st. A processing fee will apply.

What is the race’s cancel/refund/defer policy? We will only process refunds and deferments for Active Duty Military with orders to relocate or deploy. You may defer up until May 15th

Where can I find a course map? You can see course maps for the Half and 8K here. 5K map coming soon.

Are iPods allowed? 
Yes.  Please keep your volume low and remain alert to your surroundings for your safety.

 

What are the awards details?

All age group awards for the open 8K and the Half Marathon will be mailed 4-6 weeks after the race.

 

What can I expect at water stations?
There are seven water stations on the half course and two for the 8K.  Gatorade will not be served on the 8K course. Gatorade will be served at every other station on the half marathon course. Each water station will offer water, and there will be portable toilets available at each water station.

 

Where will portable toilets be located? 
P.T. banks are available at the start, finish, and post-race bash. They will also be at every water station along the course.

 

What are the time limits for the races? 

The half marathon time limit is 4 hours. The 8K limit is 90 minutes.  Both of these time limits are an 18 minute/mile pace.  Runners falling behind this pace will be asked to move to the sidewalks.

Can I walk the race?  
Walkers who can meet and maintain the 18 min/mile pace are welcome in the 8K!  The half marathon is a challenging course and best for experienced participants due to the distance, rolling hills and longer exposure to the heat and humidity.

 

Are the races corralled? Can I switch corrals? 
Yes, corrals will be based on the pace times that runners submit when they register.  You can always move back in the corrals if you feel you have been placed too far forward.  Moving up will be at the discretion of race staff and corral monitors.

 

Can I run with my child during the Fun Run? 
Parents  may join younger children in 100 and 400 meter fun runs as long as they do not impede any other participants in the race.

 

Are strollers/bicycles/rollerblades allowed on the course?

Due to USATF and insurance regulations, strollers, bicycles, and rollerskates/blades are NOT allowed on the course.

 

Can I bring my dog along?

Sorry! The Run for the Dream loves animals but this is not a pet friendly event.
